TEACH NEW DESIGN Teaching is needed when the card design that you use is not recognized. There are two possibilities:
1. TEACH FILE CREATED BY SUPPORT You can answer "Yes" to the question in the message that appears on the screen (see illustration to the right) if you want help to teach a design. This service costs 100 Euro and takes at least a week.
How to add a Teach file that you get from BridgeSorter support is explained on a separate page.
2. TEACH FILE CREATED BY YOURSELF You should answer "No" to the initial question if you want to teach a new design yourself. See further the instructions below.
2.1 Starting Teach We recommend that you use alt-ctrl-shift-T when BOS main window is active to start Teach. This alternative gives you a separate Teach file containing your design that you should keep as backup. Note that you have to add the file to the main database if you use this alternative.
Alternatively you can start Teach without the special command above. This adds the design to the main database immediately but has the drawback that you will have to do teach after each update of the BOS package..
2.2 Teach procedure It is crucial for the card recognition that you follow the instructions below precisely.
i. Teach order The cards MUST be taught in ascending rank order (club 2 first and the ace of spades last).
ii. Deck name Enter a intuitive card name such as "ACBL" and select "Indices type"
iii. Clicking First click on the rank and be careful to click on the print, not "inside" the 6, 8, 9, or 10. Then click on the suit.
Click on a white area to reset if you would make a mistake.
Click on the "Save entry" button, or, better, use the Enter key to confirm the teaching of each card.
iv. Checking The just taught deck must be put back AT THE BOTTOM of the hopper to be checked. Check/confirm that the cards are sorted in suites.
